Main interest of Eng. Marco Foi (PhD) is the development of software solutions for digital agricolture.
These gather around a set of technological stacks:
- mobile technologies to deveop data-collection applications that can be used also in remote locations without the support of data connectivity. The developed apps always include novel solutions to perform environmental measurements using sensors embedded in the smartphone or connected using wireless antennas. Also the apps exhibit a refined user experience that allows an effective use of the device so going beyond the traditional research tool requiring a long learing curve.
- data processing and transformation tools that perform asyncronous and unsupervised operations on meteorological and agronomic data. Such tool-chains often act as backbone for data-pipelines that are setup to apply agronomical model in businness processes that deliver constants, reliable and reproducible results to project parthners and customers.
- data sharing tools to foster infrastructure interoperability. These tools act as middlewares between mobile tools and data-processing chains but also between Cassandra ICT infrastructure and other palyers' systems. The direction of data flow implementd in the tools is both ways: some times REST API and other web-services allow data to be polled from outside while, some other times, event or time triggered tools like AWS Lambda commit information into partner data warehouses.
Inventor of the Patent PCT/EP2014/052418: a method/electronic apparatus for leaf area index estimates that can be implemented in smart apps.
